Travel regulations
Which rules apply when using Sydtrafiks busses?
Sydtrafiks travel regulations describe the terms and conditions that concern travelling with Sydtrafiks buses.
• Customers under 16 years run for children price
• Customers between 16-64 years run for adult price
• Customers over 65 years run for senior price
Adults can take two children (under the age of 12) with them on the journey for free.
A paying child can take one child (under the age of 12) with him/her on the journey for free.
Documentation of age
You must be able to document your age, e.g., driver’s license or some kind of personal ID, if requested by the personnel.
If you are not able to document your age and the personnel are in doubt, they can rightly issue an adult ticket.
Small dogs, cats and other small animals are allowed in all buses without extra payment, if they are placed in a handbag or similar, and if they stay in the bag during the whole journey.
Dogs that cannot fit in a handbag are allowed at children’s price.
Dogs should be kept in a short lead and should not disturb the other passengers or mess up the bus.
Animals are not allowed to sit on the seats.
The bus driver can refuse an animal if it is considered to be disturbing for the other passengers.
Guide dogs/service dogs
Guide dogs wearing the sign of a man with the white walking stick are allowed in all buses for free.
This also applies to service dogs with an ID vest.
The owner must be able to show a special ID card.
Smoking, both cigarettes and electronic cigarettes, is not allowed in all buses or bus stations.
Furthermore, consuming of alcohol is not allowed.
If any passenger behaves inappropriate and harasses other passengers or the driver, the driver can reject or to drop off that passenger.
You can bring personal luggage if it does not bother or is a danger to others, as well as if it does not soil or damage the bus.
The driver determines whether you can bring your luggage on the bus.
Bring your bike for free
It is free to bring your bike on all buses where this is an option.
This applies to both the yellow and blue buses.
Rush hour closures in some municipalities
It is not possible to bring your bike during rush hour in the municipalities of Esbjerg, Kolding, Vejle and Fredericia. This applies to all buses. Rush hour is on weekdays between 7:00-9:00 and 14:30-17:00.
Rules for taking your bike
Yellow buses
Passengers with bikes must use the back or middle door, and the bikes must be secured in the flex area, where wheelchairs, strollers and the like must also be. Each bus can carry a maximum of two units in the flex area, and the space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. It is the passenger's own responsibility to ensure that the bike is secured correctly and does not cause a nuisance to other passengers.
The space may also be occupied by other items such as strollers, wheelchairs and walkers. The bus driver decides whether there is space or not, and you must always follow the bus driver's instructions.
Blue buses
The blue buses can take bicycles to the extent that there is space in the luggage compartment or bicycle rack.
Tell the driver that you have a bicycle before checking in.
Express and minibuses
It is not possible to bring bicycles on express buses and on bus routes operated by minibuses.
Special bicycles and bicycle trailers
Unfortunately, it is not possible to bring adult tricycles, cargo bicycles, bicycle trailers or the like on Sydtrafik's buses.
You can bring a pram, wheelchair or a walker on the bus free of charge if it does not compromise entry and exit.
Also, they are only allowed if they are transporting passengers.
There is maximum capacity of two prams per bus and the driver can deny prams, wheelchairs and walkers if there is limited space in the bus.
Wheelchair users must be self-sufficient for instance by having a helper.
The bus drivers cannot help, as they are not allowed to leave their seats.
On longer routes outside the cities, we still operate blue high-floor buses in some places, where there are steps up to the seats.
In the municipalities of South Jutland, most regional routes are operated with yellow electric buses with low entry.
If you have difficulty walking and need transport in the other municipalities, flextrafik is the best alternative.
Sydtrafik does not refund unused or partially used single trip tickets.
No compensation is paid for single trip tickets.
Commuter card
Commuters wanting to have their cards refunded before they expire should note that a fee is charged, corresponding to the price for eight days of travel.
If, for example, you want to have a transit ticket refunded which has 15 days left on it, you will be refunded the price for 15 days minus 8 days = 7 days.
If you ask to have your transit ticket refunded before its first day of validity, the price is refunded in full.
You must buy or show a valid ticket or card when you get on the bus.
It is your responsibility always to make sure that you have bought the right ticket.
If you are not able to show a valid ticket by request of a checker, you can be fined.
The price is DKK 750 for an adult, DKK 375 for a child (under 16 years), DKK 375 for a dog and DKK 100 for a bicycle.
If you disagree with an inspection fee you can lodge a complaint to Sydtrafik before the time allowed for payment expires.
You are required to have the ticket on you while driving and by exit, and you must be able to show a ticket by request of either the driver or any of Sydtrafiks checkers.
Trains operated by DSB and Arriva
Remember that Sydtrafiks tickets and multi trip tickets are not valid in trains operated by DSB or Arriva.
You can travel using your ticket and change bus within the time and zones that are stated on the ticket.
The validity is calculated based on the number of zones.
| Zones | Validity |
| 1-2 | 1 hour |
| 3 | 1 hour and 15 minutes |
| 4 | 1 jour and 30 minutes |
| 5 | 1 hour and 45 minutes |
| 6 | 1 hour and 55 minutes |
| 7 | 2 hours and 5 minutes |
| 8 | 2 hours and 15 minutes |
If you travel more than 8 zones, the validity increases with 10 minutes for each zone.
You can see the validity on your ticket or card.
You will have to begin your last journey before the validity expires.
You can freely change bus on the same journey and route within the validity.
The time of boarding is calculated based on the scheduled departure time, which means that you can begin your journey on the same ticket even though the bus is delayed, if the scheduled departure time is within the validity.
